Hello comic cadets Who & Ted here with another Comic Market Alert! A few days ago it was Simu Liu’s birthday and the star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings shared his gift of a trailer from Marvel for the world to see. It was a nice unexpected drop that seem to come out of nowhere as fans have been distracted by the upcoming finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier after getting WandaVision beamed directly into our cortex.
One issue previously mentioned in last years 2020 Market Watch was Master of Kung Fu #29, first appearance of Razor Fist, which got noticed after a brief glimpse of him in the preview. The knives-for-hands villain thankfully got a makeover from his bondage meets college wrestler outfit bodes well for us but in the end it always falls on the actor.
Another comic that got a great bump was Master of Kung Fu #115, first appearance of The Death Dealer, who also has received a makeover. The character looks to be bringing Taskmaster vibes while sporting a very cool costume that is sure to get cosplayers immediately to work. An under $20 comic weeks ago has now jumped up to prices over $100 overnight as has #29. It’s a predictable move that has become all to common after years of observing the comic market.
As I cautioned in the previously published now available here Comic Market Watch 2020: Apocalypse Edition, be careful with purchasing lower tier villains. Take advantage of the hype and focus on short term selling rather than long term as these characters are more than likely going to be hero fodder for Shang-Chi to gobble up. Both antagonists meet their eventual doom and Marvel does enjoy sticking to the source material. Take advantage that people are looking for this to get the highest price but know that as soon as the movie hits if these characters get waxed these comics will plummet.
